Egerváry Award – Egerváry Jenő Memorial Plaque

About the award: On 10 May 2004, the Board of the Hungarian Operations Research Society (MOT) decided to establish the Egerváry Jenő Memorial Plaque. The plaque may be awarded for many years of successful research and teaching in Operations Research and, more broadly, applied mathematics, and/or for sustained, active support of MOT’s professional activities.

The award is typically granted once per year by the current Board of MOT. The memorial plaque (created by Kinga Széchenyi in 2004) is presented by the President of MOT at the General Assembly. The result and the reasoning are published on the MOT website.

Balas Egon Award

About the award: In 2023, MOT established an award in memory of Egon Balas (1922–2019) to recognize outstanding Operations Research results by young researchers. Each year, one young researcher can receive the award, consisting of a monetary prize and a certificate.

Applications are based on a paper published in 2023 (including online publication). The applicant must be the sole author, or in the case of multiple authors, their contribution must be separable and independently assessable. The MOT Board evaluates the application, and may involve external expert(s).
